2022 October Update
Fall time is here! And so are the colds. I love the mosaic of colors in the trees, wearing my fluffy hat and long jean overcoat, and having more steamy hot tea in the kitchen, but I’ve already gotten 2 different colds this season. ARGH! Thank goodness for clementines, cayenne pepper, ginger tea, and homemade chicken noodle soup.
Fall is my second favorite season, next to summer of course. However, summer this year had some weird things in store for me and my husband. The scariest was that my husband broke his back from a freak accident fall.
All the doctors told us he was incredibly lucky to not need surgery, as long as we were diligent about his healing with the back brace. It was pretty awkward to get used to.
The good news is, he was recently approved to begin training out of the brace! Each day he is feeling more confident without it, aside from some achy muscles. Plus, he can finally get hugs from me again without feeling like a robot.
We’ve enjoyed as many easy hikes as we could, and the peaceful nature surrounding us has really helped with healing. I’ve never seen so many butterflies in my life!
However, the woodland mice creating a nest in my car’s AC unit was not nearly as pleasant, nor was their eating of our entire stash of sunflower seeds. Where are all the snakes when you need them?? 🐍
In the past few months, I also developed more self care routines with yoga and stretches. Searching for specific poses to help manage an issue (back pain, stiff neck, etc) is a huge help. I’ve been able to stay motivated and positive knowing that I’m targeting a goal, although there are some poses I haven’t quite leveled up to yet.
Most of my personal art lately involves work on my story about a crested gecko. I’m really excited about the project again after being stuck on it for so long! I’m drawing more reptiles and amphibians in general so I can learn their anatomy and unique traits which will help me illustrate the characters better.
Lastly, re-training myself on some 2D animation programs that I learned in college has helped me reflect on how to use those skills in future projects (like stories with animated elements!). My Vimeo page is still pretty underdeveloped, but if you check it out, you can view the new things I’m playing around with as well as some old animation work.
Overall I’m focusing more on story art and keeping fine art as more of a hobby. Having too many projects at once can be overwhelming and unproductive, so picking and choosing the most exciting ones helps with focus. This is definitely something I’ve struggled with, so I’m trying a different path that will hopefully keep me moving forward with the illustrative art styles I enjoy so much. There are a lot of geckos cluttering up my head, which I love don’t get me wrong, but they are becoming a bit overwhelming. 🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎🦎
Thanks for the read! Hope you enjoy the remaining days of the spooky season. 🎃
