2021 WVAL August Show
Dates: August 12 - August 29th
Location: Sycamore Shoals Historic State Park
For this year’s August show with the Watauga Valley Art League (WVAL), I created three new watercolor mixed media paintings. Each painting features an aspect of nature’s beauty in the little things, inspired by my mom. I am very proud of how these came out, and it was a great way for me to get back into artmaking after such a crazy spring and summer this year.
The show was also the perfect opportunity to test out a new technique I’ve been developing: painting with watercolor and ink on a cradled box panel! I really wanted a way to hang watercolor art professionally without needing a frame, but I didn’t want to just glue watercolor paintings to a board. So with many hours of researching and development through parts of 2020 and 2021, I came up with a process of my own.
At the show, two of the three paintings sold, and I was even invited to present my methods at WVAL’s September meeting. I received a very enthusiastic response from the members and a few tips that I would like to test for my next pieces. I really like making these alongside my digital art - they give me a nice physical project to work on and step away from screens for a while. And so far it seems to be successful! If you’d like to see more about my process, let me know and I’ll make sure I get a tutorial up about the process. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
